During brass festival On Wings (Groningen) I’ll be conducting the Rheingold Ouverture with 200 musicians in open air. I’m sure Wagner will be pleased to find bagpipes, recorders and even the carillon in this performance! During the preceding network-meeting I’ll give a presentation about the Ricciotti Ensemble. It promises to be an exiting festival with a great line-up! Please check onwings.nl for the entire program.
On Saturday the 21st of May I was invited to talk about composing and my compositions in the Cultuurcafé from radio L1. This was quite special, because the recordings took place in Heerlen, my birthplace. I knew the building from the time when I was (very) young. At that time it was a warehouse, now it is transformed in a vibrant place with a museum and all kind of cultural activities. For the interview, please check this link.
The Junge Oper Stuttgart exists 20 years this year. I’m looking forward to contribute to the festivities with a mini-opera for two musicians inspired by a poem of Toon Tellegen. The Junge Oper will perform this piece in a series with mini-operas composed by the many composers they’ve worked with during the years. The feature I especially like; the opera will be performed in a ‘commercial’ location somewhere in the city, out of the concert-hall. Check the website of Junge Oper Stuttgart for more information.
