Just came home after Ricciotti’s Scottish Fling. We visited the Netherlands and Scotland together with tenor Jamie Munn and gave around 50 performances at various places where you wouldn’t expect a symphony-orchestra. Next tour will be in January 2018!

I’m very happy and excited to be nominated for the Rogier van Otterloo Award 2017 together with Jesse Passenier and Tim Wybenga. The Rogier van Otterloo Award is an award for promising composers/arrangers/conductors who explore the field between jazz and classical music. The award is initiated by the Metropole Orchestra.

It was a privilege to work with the Guri Symphonic Youth Orchestra during from 28th July – 9th of August 2017. We gave several performances in São Paulo with a program ranging from Dvorak, Villa-Lobos to sertanejo and baile funk. As part of the project the students were invited to re-think the whole concept and premises of a concert and they came up with incredible beautiful and creative ideas. Besides the rehearsals I was invited to give some masterclasses and lectures. As ‘special feature’ my friends from the New Amsterdam Clarinet Quartet visited São Paulo and made a fantastic contribution to the concerts.

HONDENHARTJE Nationale Opera & Ballet

First time in Nationale Opera & Ballet, I conducted youth-opera Hondenhartje with the music from Oene van Geel en Florian Magnus Maier. If you missed it, there will be a reprise in 2018 of this crazy and unique opera directed by Marcel Sijm.

Tournée Dansante Ricciotti ensemble 01-06 May 2017

The Ricciotti ensemble, dancer Kenzo Kusuda and singer Marieke Steenhoek joined forces to give 27 performances in 6 days at various places throughout the Netherlands. We played and danced for 3000 people in the streets, hospitals, prisons, secondary schools and other places where you wouldn’t expect a  symphony orchestra!

Because of their 135 year existence (!) Groningen-based student music society Bragi asked me to compose a new piece for chamber-choir. I decided to set some of the marvelous Immortellen by Dutch student-poet Piet Paaltjens (François Haversmidt) to music. This resulted in 10 miniatures for mixed chamber-choir, exploring different techniques and styles but always with a theatrical approach.

The piece is supported by the Performing Arts Fund NL and will be premiered on Saturday 20th May 2017 in Groningen. Please see this link for tickets.

New recordings Windstreken

During the last years I wrote some new songs for Windstreken & Nicole Jordan. We decided to make a new recording featuring pieces by Pieter de Mast, Kamal Hors and me. The result is an eclectic mix ranging from music inspired by the Dutch poet Vasalis, Bach, Eric Dolphy, the unknown Arnhem-based composer Henricus Reinis (16th century), old Andalusian songs and many more. For this occasion I unwrapped my trumpet and play some songs together with the band.
